A work site-based program designed to assist (1)
the work organization in addressing
productivity issues and (2) “employee clients” in identifying and
resolving personal concerns, including, but not limited to health, marital, family,
financial, alcohol, drug, legal, emotional, stress or other personal issues that
may affect job performance (EAPA Standards and Professional Guidelines, p. V).
No, there is no cost to you for the services provided and there
is no billing generated. The services are a benefit provided
to you as an employee of the University of New Mexico. Fees and
expenses incurred as a result of community referrals are the
responsibility of the staff or faculty member. Insurance may
be used when applicable. If community services are not covered
by the members insurance or free of charge, the CARS clinician
will try to help minimize the cost by making referrals to the
most cost effective agency or individual.
NO, none of the information obtained by CARS becomes a part
of any employment or personnel records. The information is confidential
and is only released with your written permission or within the
limits of applicable law and ethical guidelines.
The CARS staff includes licensed psychologists, licensed clinical
counselors, licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselors, and trained
mediators. CARS also functions as a training site for counseling
and psychology interns. Professional support staff coordinate
scheduling of clients and other office duties. All staff must
adhere to confidentiality rules and regulations, and possess
relevant education.

system to help staff and faculty with personal issues including

or relationship difficulties, adjustment to life-changes like
pregnancy or marriage, job-related issues, stress and emotional
difficulties, problems caused by one’s own or other’s
alcohol or other drug use and/or the effects of victimization.
